+Lifeline Program

Basic residential service is available as a Lifeline service.  Lifeline is a government benefit program which provides a monthly credit toward a qualified low-income subscriber’s telephone bill.  Only eligible low-income consumers may enroll in the Lifeline program. +Relay Iowa

Telecommunications relay service provides full telephone accessibility to people who are deaf, hard-of-hearing or speech impaired. Specifically trained Communication Assistants (CAs) process relay calls and stay on the line to relay conversations electronically, over a Text Telephone (TTY) or verbally to hearing parties.

The service, known as Relay Iowa, is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with no restrictions on the number of calls placed or on their length. This valuable communications tool gives all individuals who are deaf, hard-of-hearing or speech impaired the opportunity to make personal and business calls just like any other telephone user. Both TTY and voice users may initiate calls through Relay Iowa.  For more information go to

Great for businesses, people with wireless phones and people who travel or who are away from home often.  Call Forwarding lets you forward your calls to another phone number when you aren’t home or when your line is busy and you can’t answer.  This protects you because no one will ever know that you’re not at home.

Quickly dial up to 30 of your most frequently called numbers by dialing just 2 numbers. Great for households with children or elderly residents who need a simple way to make a call in an emergency. It’s also great for businesses and busy families needing to save time on frequently dialed numbers.
+Distinctive Ring/Teen Line: $1.50/month

Want to add another number without the cost of adding another line? With Distinctive Ring, it’s like having two phone numbers in one. You’ll get another phone number, which rings differently than your home phone number. You’ll even hear a different call waiting tone when you’re on the phone. This is great for home-based businesses, because your business phone number rings differently than your home phone number, so you’ll always know when you’re receiving business calls. With Anonymous Call Rejection, you’ll automatically reject all those calls designated as “anonymous.” You know the ones–-those calls that always seem to interrupt your dinner. In fact, with Anonymous Call Rejection, your phone won’t even ring! Use this feature in conjunction with the “Do not call” list for total privacy.
+Selective Call Rejection: $1.50/month

This feature allows you to create a list of numbers you don’t want to accept calls from. (This feature works for local calls only). These callers receive a message that says you aren’t taking calls at this time. This feature shields your business and your family from undesirable phone calls.
+Selective Distinctive Ring: $1.50/month

Only want to answer the phone for important calls? This feature allows you to create a special list of VIP phone numbers. When you receive calls from those phone numbers, your phone rings with a special ringing tone.
+Call Trace: $15.00 service order charge, plus $5.00 per successful trace

If you are receiving obscene, threatening or harassing calls, use call trace to have the party’s number traced and printed out by Van Buren Telephone. Call trace enhances your security and privacy by helping you to put an end to offending calls (requires law enforcement involvement).
